Stellite 6B is a CoCrMo alloy primarily composed of 50–60% Cobalt, 27–30% Chromium, and 4–6% Molybdenum, also known as CoCr30W5. This alloy is wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and retains its hardness at high temperatures (up to 800°C).
Applications of Stellite 6B
Due to its properties, Stellite 6B is suitable for various industries, including aerospace, oil and gas extraction, and the steel industry. In aerospace, the alloy is used for turbine components. Additionally, Stellite 6B is utilized in pumps and drilling rig components in oil and gas extraction, as well as for cutting tools in the steel industry.
AMS 5894 – Standard Specification for Cobalt Alloy Stellite 6B
AMS 5894 is a standard that defines the guidelines for the cobalt alloy Stellite 6B. This alloy, consisting primarily of cobalt with additions of chromium (28-32%), tungsten (3.5-5.5%), and carbon (0.9-1.4%), is renowned for its exceptional wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties.
The AMS 5894 standard specifies the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and delivery condition of Stellite 6B. The material is supplied in a solution-hardened condition, meaning it undergoes a specific heat treatment to ensure optimal performance. This makes it immediately suitable for demanding applications without requiring additional processing or heat treatment.
