Nilo® Alloy 36 / Invar® 36

Nilo® Alloy 36 / Invar® 36 / 1.3912 / UNS K93600

Nilo® Alloy 36, also known as Invar® 36, is a nickel-iron alloy with a nickel content of approximately 36%. This alloy is renowned for its exceptionally low thermal expansion coefficient, enabling it to maintain its dimensions almost exactly over a wide temperature range—from cryogenic temperatures up to around 260°C.

Additionally, Nilo® 36 retains its strength and toughness even at extremely low temperatures, making it an excellent choice for cryogenic applications and precision instruments.

Properties of Nilo® Alloy 36 / Invar® 36

Nilo® Alloy 36 offers one of the lowest coefficients of expansion of all metals, making it extremely suitable for applications where dimensional stability is crucial. The alloy maintains this stability over a wide temperature range, from cryogenic levels up to approximately 260°C.

In addition to minimal expansion, Nilo® 36 also provides excellent mechanical properties at low temperatures, including high toughness and tensile strength. This makes it suitable not only for applications in precision technology but also for structural applications in cryogenic systems.

The alloy is highly workable and weldable, making it widely applicable in both civil and industrial environments.

Applications of Nilo® Alloy 36 / Invar® 36

Nilo® Alloy 36 is used in environments where minimal thermal expansion and accuracy are required. Some typical applications include:

  • Measuring equipment and precision instruments

  • Laser components

  • Bi-metal thermostat strips and rods

  • Tanks and pipes for liquefied gases (cryogenic storage)

  • Components in aerospace

Thanks to its stability under temperature variations, Invar® 36 is the go-to choice for applications where thermal deformation must be kept to an absolute minimum.

Nilo® Alloy 36 is the material for precision, stability, and reliability in extreme temperature applications.
