Waspaloy® is a nickel-based, precipitation-hardening superalloy known for its exceptional strength at high temperatures and resistance to oxidation and corrosion. This combination of properties makes Waspaloy® extremely suitable for applications in highly demanding environments, such as the aerospace industry.
The alloy offers excellent structural integrity up to temperatures of approximately 870°C, making it a valuable choice for rotating and hot components.
Waspaloy® is specifically designed to maintain high mechanical strength during prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Due to precipitation hardening, the alloy achieves high tensile and creep strength, even at temperatures above 650°C. Its chemical composition—rich in nickel, with additions of chromium, cobalt, molybdenum, aluminum, and titanium—ensures a strong matrix structure and excellent oxidation resistance.
Furthermore, Waspaloy® offers good aging resistance and structural stability, even under cyclic loading, making it suitable for applications that are both mechanically and thermally demanding. Its corrosion resistance, particularly against oxidation, allows the material to be used in aggressive environments as well.
Although it is challenging to machine in its hardened state, Waspaloy® can be excellently processed in the solution annealed condition and then aged for maximum performance.
Waspaloy® is primarily utilized in the aerospace industry, particularly in gas turbine components such as rotor disks, compressors, seals, spacers, and fasteners. The alloy performs optimally at temperatures up to 650°C and remains functional and strong at peak temperatures of approximately 870°C.
In addition to these demanding applications, Waspaloy® is also used in less rigorous applications such as rocket systems, shafts, rings, and various engine components where durability and heat resistance are paramount.
Waspaloy® is an excellent choice for applications requiring high temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and structural reliability.
