Titanium Grade 3

Titanium Grade 3 / UNS R50550 / 3.7055

Titanium Grade 3 is the third of the four commercially pure titanium types and offers an excellent combination of strength and corrosion resistance. This material is twice as strong as Titanium Grade 1 and has a tensile strength approximately 30% higher than that of Titanium Grade 2.

The strength is comparable to the stronger austenitic stainless steels, while being significantly lighter. Additionally, Titanium Grade 3 offers excellent corrosion resistance, even in pure chloride solutions up to 70 degrees Celsius. With its good weldability and robust mechanical properties, it is widely applicable across various sectors.

Properties of Titanium Grade 3

Titanium Grade 3 offers excellent corrosion resistance, making it ideal for applications in aggressive chemical and marine environments. The material is particularly suitable for components that are continuously exposed to saltwater, acids, and chloride compounds.

With a tensile strength 30% higher than Titanium Grade 2 and double the strength of Titanium Grade 1, it is an excellent choice for applications requiring both high mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. Despite the higher strength, it retains good weldability, making it easy to process and assemble.

The combination of strength, corrosion resistance, and weldability makes Titanium Grade 3 a versatile material for demanding applications where durability and reliability are key.

Applications of Titanium Grade 3

Titanium Grade 3 is extensively used in the automotive industry, where its high strength-to-weight ratio contributes to lighter and more efficient vehicles. In the chemical industry, it is preferred for chloride production and other aggressive environments due to its excellent corrosion resistance.

In maritime and offshore applications, Titanium Grade 3 is utilized for saltwater-resistant components, while the aerospace industry benefits from its strength and low weight combination. Additionally, the material is applied in pumps and other industrial equipment that must withstand extreme conditions.

Titanium Grade 3 is an excellent choice for applications where high tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and good workability are crucial.
