Hastelloy® C-22, also known as Inconel® Alloy C-22, is a nickel alloy with chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, and iron as its primary alloying elements. This composition provides exceptional resistance to both oxidation and reducing corrosion across a wide range of acidic and acid halide environments, including those with mixed acids and aggressive halogens.
Thanks to its versatile corrosion resistance, C-22 is often used as a universal alloy in complex chemical applications.
Hastelloy® C-22 excels in resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, stress corrosion, and degradation by both oxidizing and reducing acids. The high chromium content provides excellent oxidation resistance, while molybdenum and tungsten enhance resistance to localized corrosion.
The alloy is also highly effective in halogen-containing media, such as hydrochloric acid and sodium hypochlorite, where many other alloys degrade rapidly. C-22 is additionally weldable and formable, without compromising its corrosion resistance — ideal for complex systems under severe chemical stress.
Thanks to its exceptional chemical resistance, Hastelloy® C-22 is highly suitable for industrial processes where corrosion control is essential. Typical applications include:
Chemical processing and mixing facilities
Pollution control and emissions treatment
Flue gas desulfurization (FGD systems)
Waste incineration and flue gas cleaning
Pulp and paper industry
Hastelloy® C-22 / Inconel® Alloy C-22 is the alloy of choice for applications where multiple types of acids and halogens are combined, and where maximum reliability and corrosion resistance are required.
