Niobium Type 1 is unalloyed Niobium of reactor quality. This grade has strict requirements for chemical purity, especially for elements that can affect neutron absorption. The material is produced via vacuum or plasma arc melting.
Due to the high purity requirements, Type 1 is the reference grade within the Niobium family.
Niobium Type 1 combines a high melting point of approximately 2477 degrees Celsius with excellent corrosion resistance against most acids. The reactor grade purity ensures low and predictable neutron absorption.
Mechanically, Type 1 is relatively soft and easily formable, with good weldability under protective atmosphere.
