Niobium Type 1

Niobium Type 1 is unalloyed Niobium of reactor quality. This grade has strict requirements for chemical purity, especially for elements that can affect neutron absorption. The material is produced via vacuum or plasma arc melting.

Due to the high purity requirements, Type 1 is the reference grade within the Niobium family.

Properties of Niobium Type 1

Niobium Type 1 combines a high melting point of approximately 2477 degrees Celsius with excellent corrosion resistance against most acids. The reactor grade purity ensures low and predictable neutron absorption.

Mechanically, Type 1 is relatively soft and easily formable, with good weldability under protective atmosphere.

Applications of Niobium Type 1

Type 1 is used in nuclear reactor components due to its low neutron absorption. In the chemical process industry, the material is used for equipment that must withstand aggressive acids.

Additionally, Type 1 is applied in superconducting systems, where high purity is a prerequisite.
