Corrosion resistant, tough, and reliable

Tantalum is a gray, lustrous metal renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance in aggressive environments. It is typically extracted from minerals like tantalite or coltan, which also contain copper and tin. Although tantalum is not a precious metal, it closely resembles one in terms of chemical resistance. With its high melting point, toughness, and biocompatibility, tantalum is utilized in a wide range of applications—from medical implants to components in chemical installations.

Properties Tantalum is acid and heat resistant, tough, easy to work with, and biocompatible.
Applications Tantalum is used in chemistry, medical implants, furnaces, crucibles, and capacitors. Due to its inertness, it is suitable for medical and high-tech applications.

Unique role of Tantalum

Tantalum plays a crucial role in applications where reliability under extreme conditions is essential. In electronics, the high capacity and stability of tantalum capacitors enable compact and powerful circuits, such as those in medical equipment and mobile technology. In chemical installations, tantalum is chosen because it remains structurally intact even in hot, concentrated acids like nitric and sulfuric acid. The combination of toughness, acid resistance, and high-temperature stability makes tantalum a strategic metal in sectors where downtime is not an option.

Frequently asked questions

Due to the high material value and specific applications, we often supply Tantal based on project specifications. We can provide both raw bar and plate as well as fully assembled parts for the chemical industry.

Yes, Tantal has excellent corrosion resistance against virtually all acids, except for fluoride-containing acids.

Tantal has a melting point of approximately 3017 °C. In an atmospheric environment, Tantal oxidizes from around 300–400 °C. For higher temperatures, it is used in a vacuum or an inert atmosphere.
