Niobium Type 2 is unalloyed Niobium of commercial quality. Compared to the reactor grade variant Type 1, Type 2 has less stringent purity requirements, making it suitable for a wider range of industrial applications.
This commercial quality is in practice the most common choice outside the nuclear sector.
Type 2 has the same basic properties as Type 1: a high melting point, excellent corrosion resistance, and good formability, with wider tolerances for impurities.
The Alloy remains easily weldable under protective atmosphere and maintains good resistance to corrosion in most acids.
Applications of Niobium Type 2
Type 2 is widely used in the chemical process industry, for reactor parts and piping exposed to corrosive media. It is also used in the electronics industry, including in capacitors.
Additionally, Type 2 is applied as an alloying element in superalloys for aerospace.
