Zirconium Zr704 / UNS R60704

Zirconium Zr704 is zirconium with a small addition of Niobium. This addition increases the mechanical strength compared to commercially pure Zr702, without significantly affecting the corrosion resistance of zirconium.

Due to the combination of strength and chemical resistance, Zr704 forms an intermediate solution between Zr702 and the stronger alloyed Zr705.

Properties of Zirconium Zr704

The Niobium addition ensures a higher minimum tensile strength of approximately 413 MPa and a yield strength of at least 241 MPa, a clear improvement compared to Zr702.

Zr704 maintains good resistance to oxidation at elevated temperatures and performs well in steam environments. The corrosion resistance in acids and chlorides remains nearly the same as that of Zr702.

Applications of Zirconium Zr704

Zr704 is used in the aerospace industry for components that must withstand high temperatures, and in chemical process equipment where long-term exposure to corrosive substances occurs.

Zr704 is also used in the energy industry for parts that must withstand higher mechanical loads than achievable with Zr702.
