Tungsten Rhenium W-26Re is the highest alloyed standard variant within the W-Re series with 26 weight percent rhenium. The material offers the best formability of all W-Re alloys and is used as a complementary material to the low-alloyed variants.
Due to the high rhenium content, W-26Re is more expensive than the other W-Re alloys, which is justified in applications where reliability at extreme temperatures is decisive.
W-26Re has a solidus temperature of approximately 3180 degrees Celsius, lower than pure Wolfram but still exceptionally high. The Alloy combines this with a good thermo-electric response.
Compared to the low-alloyed variants, W-26Re offers the best combination of strength and elongation, facilitating workability into wire.
Applications of Wolfram Rhenium W-26Re
W-26Re is almost exclusively used in combination with W-5Re in thermocouple wire for temperature measurements well above 2000 degrees Celsius, among others in metal and glass production.
Additionally, the Alloy is used in thin-film sensors and radiation-sensitive measuring equipment.
