Molybdenum Type 360 / UNS R03600
Molybdenum Type 360 is unalloyed molybdenum produced by vacuum arc melting. In this process, a molybdenum electrode is melted under vacuum and recast into an ingot, resulting in a pure and uniform microstructure.
This production method distinguishes Type 360 from the powder metallurgy variant Type 361 and provides a material with consistent properties throughout the entire cross-section.
Molybdenum Type 360 combines a high melting point of approximately 2623 degrees Celsius with excellent thermal and electrical conductivity and low thermal expansion. The vacuum process ensures a low content of impurities.
As with most pure molybdenum grades, Type 360 exhibits limited ductility at room temperature, requiring careful handling during welding.
Applications of Molybdenum Type 360
Type 360 is used in vacuum oven applications, sputter targets, and high-temperature tools, where the homogeneous structure contributes to a predictable lifespan.
Type 360 is also applied in heat shields and structural components for oven technology, where thermal stability is required.
