Molybdenum Type 363

Molybdenum Type 363 / UNS R03630 / TZM

Molybdenum Type 363, also known as TZM, is an alloyed Molybdenum grade with a small addition of Titanium and Zirconium, produced via vacuum arc melting. These elements form finely dispersed carbides in the matrix, which increases strength and recrystallization temperature.

TZM is considered one of the strongest commercially available Molybdenum Alloys.

Properties of Molybdenum Type 363

Due to the titanium and zirconium carbides, TZM retains its strength up to significantly higher temperatures than pure Molybdenum, with a significantly higher recrystallization temperature.

The alloy offers improved creep resistance and higher hardness than unalloyed Molybdenum, while density and conductivity remain almost the same.

Applications of Molybdenum Type 363

TZM is widely used in hot work technology, such as molds for injection molding of zinc and aluminum Alloys. TZM is also used in the glass industry for parts that are exposed to molten glass for extended periods.

Additionally, TZM finds application in aerospace and high-temperature furnace technology.
